Profile Investment Legal Writing Award

Each year, Profile Investment runs a legal writing competition. The Profile Investment TPF-related Legal Writing Award (PILWA) is granted to the winner of a competition rewarding excellence in legal writing, for a paper focusing on a set topic related to third-party funding and the ability of its author to defend it orally. The award consists of a prize- money, as well as an internship offer at Profile Investment.

Contact: Questions and papers should be sent to pilwa@profile-investment.com. Please add ‘PILWA – Question’ or ‘PILWA – Paper’ in the subject.

Third party funding has been heralded as both a cure and a scourge in international arbitration. Its continued usage in both commercial and investment treaty arbitration has given rise to a number of substantive and procedural issues. In considering these issues please come to a conclusion on whether third party funding has a future in international arbitration and if so, what kind of future

The structuring of the reasoning is left to the appreciation of the students, though since the word count is rather small, you are encouraged to swiftly focus on the core of the topic.

The authors of the 3 best papers will be invited to defend their piece before a jury comprised of PI staff. The winner of the PILWA will be offered a 6-month internship at PI, starting either in January or July 2020, as well as a 1,500 EUR price. The runner-up will be offered a 1,000 EUR price.
