PILWA. Profile Investment’s Legal Writing Award
Profile Investment’s Legal Writing Award (PILWA) was developed to give law students from all backgrounds access to essential intern experience in a highly competitive market. Interns work closely within our Team and gain real experience conducting research, writing proposals and assisting in case analysis. We expect interns to have strong problem solving skills and the ability to convey the results of their efforts in writing clearly and concisely – essential skills for any budding young lawyer. In addition our interns will have first hand experience of working with Partners at leading law firms in International Arbitration, often an essential first step in gaining further and better experience for their CV.

We don’t recruit only from “elite” universities and we do not agree that strong grades are the only indicator of a good work ethic. Instead, we focus on an applicants’ writing skills, deductive reasoning and enthusiasm that they can demonstrate through their written submissions and interviews. Applications from all levels, backgrounds and experiences are accepted.
We will announce the next opening date for submissions on Linkedin and on our website in due course. Financial prizes are offered for those that secure first and second place, with the top two applicants being offered 6 month internships.[/show_more]

WHO:
Only the students of the 2020-2021 class of Master Arbitage et Commerce International of the Paris-Saclay University are eligible to participate in the competition.
WHAT:
Students will have to draft a short legal essay (maximum 2,500 words) on the topic described below. Particular importance will be attached to the structure, the legal reasoning and referencing, as well as the presentation. Students have to sign their paper and mention the word count.
WHEN:
Papers must be submitted by Sunday 15 November 2020, 11:59pm CET.
HOW:
Papers must be sent at the email address below in searchable PDF format. Margins must be at least 2 cm and font 11 or higher. Papers need to be drafted in English.
TOPIC
Third Party Funding Regulation: how should third party funders be regulated and why would that be a better solution than the status quo?
The structuring of the reasoning is left to the appreciation of the students, though since the word count is rather small, you are encouraged to swiftly focus on the core of the topic.
PRIZE
The authors of the 3 best papers will be invited to defend their piece before a jury comprised of Profile Investment colleagues.
- The winner of the PILWA will be offered a 6-month internship at PI, starting either in July 2021, as well as a 1,500 EUR price.
- Second place will secure 1,000 EUR plus a diploma.
- Third place will be rewarded a diploma.
